Current comercial CSS sites

I've been compiling a big list of sites that are switching to CSS based designs. Big brand name sites that everyone knows. The reason for this is so that I can turn around to people and say "Lookie, they are, so should you." I've also been told by a mate who works for Sky that they are being audited for accessability.

JPEG Exploit

Theres this lovely new exploit doing the rounds at the moment that means pretty much any jpg can become a trojan. So, if you get it emailed to you and your client allows you to view inline attachments you're screwed. This is just another reason why you should switch to Firefox now. I mean, ffs, who would expect a jpg to kill your PC?

Past me 25 to Futureme 26

I'm 26 today and I just got this email;

(this message was composed on Sat, Sep 20, 2003)

Dear FutureMe, so how is it? Remember IRC? LSR? Q3? That still going? Lemme guess, you've given it all up and you just do photography now. Hows the web design? Still doing it?

Your older self...

Well Pastme, things aren't bad :) I'm still on IRC, still with LSR, gave up Q3. I haven't yet given everything up in favour of photography just yet. Web design finally kicked in about 6 months ago.

Speaking of photography my work is going to be exhibited at the Vale Cafe in New Brighton from the 8th of Novemeber and then in the Wallesy Library after that. I'm also meeting a guy this week about a cool new project, and last week I did a great photo shoot for a local band called Mesemenie.

I just got the matrix

I'm a big fan of the Matrix as any of my friends will tell you. But, I was watching Collateral tonight and it hit me, the true meaning of the Matrix. Before anyone moans, Collateral has nothing to do with the Matrix. Go see Collateral, its a decent film.

So. The Matrix isn't about Man vs Machines. Its about "Freeing your mind". But from what if not the Machines? Its about freeing your mind from society. Its about leaving the world constructed by Man and finding out who you really are. Let me walk you through this.

Mr. Anderson has a day job he doesn't like. 9 to 5, he's Mr. Anderson. He goes home and he's Neo. He's the person he chooses to be, but he is locked down by society so he has to continue being Mr. Anderson. I'm sure a lot of people already got this, and I'm just being slow. I definetly got all this the first time round, but in the context of the film, in that Neo is freed from the Matrix. But its just now that I realise the true meaning, to me at least. Anyways, so Neo has to be the person society forced upon him. He has to be Mr. Anderson. That's not his chosen name, or his chosen job, or his chosen life. Then he meets Morpheus.

Morpheus helps free him from the Matrix, or the man made construct that is society. Neo then learns who he really is and starts to realise his true potential as Neo. Neo re-enters the matrix (society) as Neo. He is now a seperate entity to the modern world. He is now the person he chooses to be. He operates in society, but he is also not part of it. He can now move around freely, seeing the world as it really is. He sees everyone still tied to the system, the people that are so dependant on it that they can't be "unplugged".

What am I saying here? That you can dodge bullets? No. I'm saying that we *are* living in the matrix right now. We are bound by societies shackles and we all need to "Free our minds". Only when we start to operate slightly outside of societies ideals can we realise our full potential as a person.

I am starting to see this in my own life. If I think about the past week, it scares me. I can see the real me, the me that is crying to be freed. I can see that I'm not bound by my fears and that I can overcome things and be who I want to be. I see this and it scares me. Why? Because its entirely possible that one day I will be alive.

Free Your Mind.

11

Today is 911. 3 years ago now. I get chills from remembering, seeing those images, but what made me feel sick, in a way I've never felt before, was the day after. September 12th, at the local newsagents. £2 for a photographic book full of WTC pictures. £2 to buy an A3 picture of secretaries, accountants, possibly designers, jumping from 80 story windows. I know its news, I know someone has to take that shot, but as a photographer I can't imagine ever thinking "Thats a great shot, I can sell that one." I can't even imagine thinking of using my camera even if I gave the images away. Maybe tho, thats why someone took them. To make me feel sick, so I know how s/he felt when they took that shot.

I have to be honest and say that I knew today was September 11th, but to me it was the Southport Airshow, it was just the 11th of september. I had totally forgotten till I went to another forum, saw it was closed and read why. I want to forget simply because its horrifying, but then I shouldn't.

Take a moment and think about the people just like me and you who were faced with burning to death or jumping out of an 80 story window on that day.
