Today

So, here I am at work. I'm using something called Zempt to add to my weblog. I'm listening to streaming audio from home, and I'm using iTunes 4.5. I feel a bit ill, I have an actual cold in April. Bit odd.

[Listening to: radio.quakefu - - (0:00)]

Zempt does that, kinda cool but its a shame that iTunes doesn't fully like the title.

Killing Bill

So, Kill Bill 2. I came out and was pretty much blank. The film had some great moments and a lot of story. I didn't come out thinking "Woo excellent", but I didn't think "meh boring" either. Matt said it was very stylistically different, which I never really noticed. I can see what he means though from thinking about KB1. I read some peoples opinions around the net. Tarantino fans loved it, it was classic Tarantino. I heard that its full of in jokes that, annoyinly, only a real fan would get. Thats a bit of a shame, but I guess KB1 is the film for newcomers, 2 is the fans film.

I think, in a way, it makes me love KB1 even more. When I first saw it I thought it was a good film. Then it came out on DVD and I watched it and thought it was a fantastic film. I watched it again just before seeing KB2 and again, loved it even more. Now after seeing KB2 and thinking about what Matt said I really can see KB1 as its own film. I kinda figured that certain things I loved about 1 couldn't happen in 2. But, all in all I didn't find it as entertaining as 1. It was a film for the fans, which wasn't me. A real shame, but hey thats Tarantino's fault :) Still, I have Vol1 to watch again :D The music, the jokes, the anime, the Japanese feel, wiggling your big toe, its great. It really is.

Painkiller

Painkiller = Q1 + Serious Sam + Havoc Engine. Its a hell of a lot of fun tho. I hardly use any other weapons apart from the default one because its so fun. You can fire it at an enemy, it hits them and pulls them towards you. Then, at the last second you dodge out the way. Its like being a superhero for heaven, I mean you are, but you feel like you are rather than just playing it. Its great when a whole bunch come at you because you just keep firing this thing, and the closer they are the quicker it comes back, so bam bam bam bam, and when they die they give you health so your ok :) You can also get super pissed off and use the primary fire which is a giant, evil killing bad ass whisk. The physics are great, the movement is damn sweet too. You can really pickup speed. I had a quick look through the options and saw a "QUAD DEAD" message, which can only be a good thing. It seems like this could be rather fun multiplayer.

Too many games

So last night I watched Kill Bill and I was inspired to play some more Ninja Gaiden (like duh!). Even though the last time I played it was faced by two very large dragon like creatures, 3 I think. I decided to really push myself this time. I cast the fire protection spell so if they came near me, whumpf, toasted dragons. This did help, but not enough. I then re-equipped myself with my trusty sword. Slice n dice roasted dragon. A 48 hit combo later and they were toast. Next! Big bad boss. Ohh er. Fire + Trusty Sword = Toasted boss. I continuted to play the game and remembered just how much damn fun it is. Pulling off some very impressive moves and remembering my love of the sword. Its plays so well, looks so good, and its just hard enough to make you really play it.

Developing with Web Standards

I've just read this great article called, "Developing With Web Standards". Its really great, covering everything a designer should now in todays industry. Why not to use frames, whats wrong with tables, search engine optimisation through designing with standards, XHTML, the IE5 box model hack, everything is there.

Websites Fail Disabled

The Register has an article on how disabled web access is 'being ignored' following the DRC's webcast this morning. Only 2 out of 1000 sites tested were AA compliant, not even AAA. Shocking. They ask that every site should at least be level A compliant, not only will it help disabled users but normal users will find your site easier to navigate. I myself try and get to AAA WCAG compliancy, don't test this site though ;) the CMS is tricky to hack. The most interesting thing from watching the broadcast was the demonstration of JAWS which basically spoke HTML on the CNN website. "TABLE, RADIO BUTTON....", just what every blind person wants to hear.

I'm sure accessability will be the next big thing in Dreamweaver MX 2005. Better had be :D

Migranes and Monitors

Theres this great BBC article on migranes that says its possible that vertical lines can cause migranes, from TV or a monitor. When I think back to my last 2 migranes, my monitor was set to 75hz and a high resolution, both times. I now run in a higher resolution, but a higher refresh rate too. I have always wondered if it was the monitor because both times after staring at the monitor for hours I got visual distortions while looking at the screen. Maybe one day I can have coke + chocolate! \o/
